What guides the choice of a book?
No single method book meets every student’s needs. Reading, coordination, articulation and expression may call for different resources. Your teacher may select relevant sections rather than asking you to work through an entire book in order.
Balance studies with pieces
Studies help focus on a particular skill. Repertoire lets you use that skill in a musical whole. For example, attention to an even tone in an exercise can carry into the ending of a short melodic phrase.
Consider editions and fingering
Different editions of the same piece may use different fingering, explanations and layouts. Check readability and your teacher’s preferred edition before buying. The images here are illustrative photographs, not actual book covers.
